Exhibition Planning and Research

In preparation for the final year exhibition, today I spent time reviewing and researching the graduation shows and exhibitions of other institutes and degree programs.

Parsons

I was specifically impressed by Parson's format for a graduate show. Parson's contribution is quite innovative. The landing page is created as a celebration of the student's work and this is displayed in a party context. Visitors to the website can toss the 2020 ball around the screen, and release a balloon. Parson's had also created a snapchat filter for the occasion to match the 2020 theme. Below is the image that greets you once the page loads.

RISD

For RISD's graphic design showcase, student's work was set up in a grid format. In order to view any of the work you have to scroll over the student's allotted box. This gives the opportunity for the work to be appreciated singularly. However, on a navigation stand point I found it annoying to have to keep flicking between moving boxes to be able to find the next person's work. I would prefer if a sample of each student's work could be viewed altogether so I could easily navigate which projects I would like to look at.

OCAD

OCAD's grad exhibition was very easy to navigate and in my opinion a great set up. There is a landing page with an image of a featured project/headshot and a brief description. These then link to a profile of the student featuring their projects. Each project then has its own page to explain the project along with corresponding images. This format allows the student to give a detailed description of their work and show their accomplishments and interests in the graphic design field.
