The topic I will be researching for my dissertation is how graphic design can be used as a tool to impact the public and political opinions of society to inflict the viewpoints of propagandists. In order to examine this topic I will be focusing on two main devices used to sway opinion using graphic design. I will investigate war propaganda starting from the 1900s, and advertising campaigns from the same period. In analysing influential graphic design and propaganda, I realised that much of it was created by propagandists utilising psychological principles and propaganda techniques. These techniques were then modified by the first advertising agencies to market products and services for companies. In examination of this media I will be showcasing the similarities between modern day advertising and that starting from the early 1900s. I will also investigate how these techniques are being used in modern day efforts to influence social and political opinions. For example, propaganda's use in the 2020 American Presidential Campaign.
